An Airbnb property manager is looking red after one of their properties was badly vandalized by a tenant. He even had the gall to leave the owners a $1,000 bill for their wrecking services.
Manager Vince Villegas went viral on TikTok recently after showing off his rundown Saugatuck, Michigan property in a clip with over two million views.
Furniture was thrown into the snow, and parts other than plants were damaged in the house. In addition, a red substance painted on the walls and light switches in creepy patterns that looked ritualistic. Villegas also pointed to some red spots on a bathroom mirror.
Other parts of the property, such as a freshly painted bathroom cabinet, had been scratched, a stone had been strangely left in the shower, carpets had been rolled up and another strange, sticky substance was seen on a bedroom door. Many other pieces of furniture were also moved into the garage.
“When they moved in, they sent us a $1,000 bill for their redecorating services,” Villegas captioned his video of the upside-down house.
He added that “it cost us $3,000 to restore what they moved and replace what they destroyed.”
In a follow-up video, Villegas explained that the man had booked two rental properties nearby. The so-called “character of interest” was initially caught moving furniture outside the first unit just before a storm. Villegas got the person to return the items without any problems.
However, when they moved into the next unit – a day later than the strange guest had planned – the nightmare began.
Originally, the checkout was at 10 a.m., but the guest didn’t return to the unit until 3:30 p.m. While Villegas was waiting, he witnessed several mishaps outside the home.
“We saw all the furniture outside…pots, water glasses, a dog bed by the door, you name it. So it was absolutely crazy,” he said.
“We ended up calling the sheriff’s department and the sheriff came and they were going to help us get him off the property.”
When the guest finally returned, the property manager said he “was a little combative with the sheriff at first,” but eventually decided to move on.
The man then asked for two hours to be released, but Villegas gave him half an hour to gather his belongings.
“What’s quite interesting is that I asked him, why did you move the furniture?” Villegas recalls.
“He said he wanted to redecorate the space to make it more homely for him and that he was a well-known decorator from Chicago and he wanted to make it a special space for him and others.”
After leaving for good, the man “carried all his clothes in garbage bags” as he boarded a local bus. The guest also carried the card, which was the work of art he had made.
“The property has now been cleared,” said Villegas, who added that police discovered the red substance was lip gloss and not blood or another scary red liquid.
“Now it has been put back together and is now being rented out. We lost a week’s rent because of this situation.”
In the comments of Villegas’ explanation, he was praised for such restraint.
“Your patience is unbelievable, sir,” wrote one.
“I think your patience and calmness about this whole situation just told me that I don’t need to be a property manager or a host because I will [want to] throw up your hands,” commented a second.
“With respect Chicago does not know that man,” added another.
